An Indian Bride’s Pride

A pair of eyes looking down…feeling shy and nervous, a quivering hand in the hand of her beloved, a vermillion bindi or a white veil making her face look even more beautiful, the tinkling sound of her anklets resonating in her presence and racing in her heart…all this and more are very few of the very many emotions that a beautiful bride Indian goes through! With hopes and dreams, with love and joy, with excitement and nervousness, an Indian bride on the brink of her marriage goes through many emotions that make her glow and shine with beauty and grace.

A bride-to-be in India has so much more happening with her than just her wedding! In India, the bride gets to do a lot of ethnic shopping for clothes and beautiful jewellery, gets a lot of gifts from her friends and family, is closer to them and everyone else special to her, the breath-taking fragrance of henna on her palms along with flowers adorning her hair and much more. And with all the attention she gets, she gets even more elated and excited about her wedding.

Not only all this, there are also a series of things that she gets to do with her husband-to-be’s family. She gets to go shopping with them for gifts from their side like bridal clothes and more jewellery. More importantly, she also gets to bond with her husband-to-be’s family give and receive a lot of love from them and also get the valuable chance of getting to know them and their ways, their likes and dislikes even before her marriage takes place!

A bride-to-be as well as a newly wed bride feels a lot of pride in the fact that she has found her companion for life and is going to spend long and happy years with him! She looks forward to her honeymoon, her newly wed life, her children, her family, her grand children with the man she loves! She also feels pride in the fact that now she has a home that she can call her own, as with her parent’s there is always the question mark of who and where will her life partner and family be!

The bride steps into a whole new world when she gets married and it is almost that she gets a whole new life! Yes…it is as if she is born again and her emotions have new wings to fly! At every step of her divine wedding with her soul mate…the bride goes through many-a-feeling and with every feeling she feels the pride of being a woman…the feeling of being the most lucky person in the world of new people and new friends! Historical are these moments in her life…moments of A Bride’s Pride!

Indian Folk Dances

Folk dances  are no particular form of dancing. They are just random styles of dances unique to the very many different regions in India, and are non-classical in nature. These are the dances of the masses, as it is performed by the normal public of a particular region in contrast to the trained dancers who perform the classical dance. The origination in general started from the people of certain community or village gathering and celebrating for occasions such as births, marriages, engagements, new beginnings, harvesting seasons, plantation seasons, rainy seasons, in fact any seasons and more!

These so-called folk dances can actually be divided into two types namely the folk and the tribal. Out of these some of the folk/tribal dances are as follows…

Bhangra

…is the folk dance from the state of Punjab and is known to be very lively and full of energy and colour.

Bihu

…is a folk-dance from Assam, which is performed by the men as well as the women and is very swift and brisk in nature.

Ghoomar

…This is a folk dance from Rajasthan, performed especially by Rajasthani women and gets its name from the symbolic pirouettes that are formed by the rotating and circling dancers.

Karagam

…is a traditional folk dance from Tamil Nadu, which involves the dancers balancing pots on their head, adorned with flowers. This dance is mostly related to temple performances and others on the streets.

Raas Garba and Dandiya

…These are the traditional dances form Gujarat, which are especially performed during the times of Navaratri along with the dance with sticks, which is relatively more vibrant and aggressive called the Dandiya.

Terahtali

…is a unique dance form from Rajasthan, performed especially by woman in a seated position.

Ghanta Patua

…is a dance performed in the state of Orissa, and its name is derived from the musical tunes for the dance arising mainly from large brass gongs called the Ghantas. Especially performed in the Hindu month of Chaitra, this dance is the most well-known for its dancers performing on stilts.

Chah Baagaan Jumur Naach

…is the unique dance form with its origins from Assam. This was a dance performed by both men and women especially from the areas of tea plantations.

Some more folk dance forms which are not the only ones, but ones that form an integral part of the Indian dance culture are Bathakamma, Changu, Dandaria, Gobbi, Mathuri from Andhra, Bagurumba from Assam, Changu, Dasakathiya (folk theatre), Kela Keluni, Sakhi Nata (puppet dance) from Orissa, Dankaara, Giddha, Gatka, Jhumar, Julli, Kikli, Luddi, Saami from Punjab, Gair, Geendad, Kacchi Ghodi, from Rajasthan, Kavadi , Therukoothu (folk theatre) from Tamil Nadu and Yakshagana (folk theatre) from Karnataka.

India is rich in these and many other forms of folk dance and there is hope that these rare and precious dance forms thrive and flourish in the times to come!

A.R.Rahman...Man for this MILLINIEUM

Born on the 6th of January 1966, A. R. Rahman (as the world knows him) was born to a musically affluent family as A. S. Dileep Kumar in Madras (now called Chennai), India. At the tender age of 9 his father passed away, and because of dire financial circumstances, at the young age of 11, he had to join Illayaraja’s orchestra as a keyboard player. Because of the various newfound responsibilities and work commitments he had, he had to drop out of school and toured the world with Illyria, and there began his public journey with music.

He also joined the tabla maestro Zakir Hussain in his world tours and gained more international experience. In this journey of music, A. R. Rahman won a scholarship at the revered Trinity College of Music in London and earned the prestigious graduation degree in Western Classical Music. By the year 1987, he was back in Chennai and went on to compose for over 500 ad jingles over a period of 5 years. With his slow but sure progress in his stint in the advertising world, by 1989 he started his own small recording studio called the Panchathan Recording Inn, which has now evolved into one of the most well-equipped and advanced recording studios in the world with the latest sound gadgets and mechanisms.

His journey in movies began with him meeting the famous director Mani Ratnam at an advertising awards ceremony, where the director heard a few of Rahman’s music samples and instantly wanted him to do the music for his film Roja in 1992. This was a groundbreaking change in the world of Indian music and in the life of A. R. Rahman and the rest as everyone knows is history.

Along the momentous journey of A. R. Rahman in the world of films, he became well-known for his milestone compositions in Tamil as well as Hindi movies like Rangeela and Bombay (1995), Tail (1999), Zubeidaa (2001), Lagaan (2001) and many more and of course in the recent times the famous international album for Slumdog Millionaire (2009) for which he won Grammys, Oscars and a lot of international acclaim.

Internationally, before Slumdog Millionaire, he also did many other projects of which the highlight was a musical called Bombay Dreams, for which he worked with Andrew Lloyd Weber and Shekhar Kapur (director of Oscar-winning Elizabeth 1998). In India too, he won many Regional as well as Hindi Filmfare awards, National Awards and Music Awards.

In his momentous journey until the age of 36, Rahman has achieved many laurels and is fondly known by many names including the Mozart of Madras and Isai Puyal. He is also called the John Williams of the Indian Music Industry. A deeply spiritual person, he turned to Sufi-ism when he was blessed by a peer baba from Islam, whom he credits his upswing and change of times to. In this respect, he quoted, “I’m a deeply spiritual person. Sufism is about love – love for a fellow human, love for all round humanity, and ultimately love for God. For me, it’s where music and religion meet – at dargahs, you will find qawwalis. That’s my inspiration.”

A prodigy, an achiever, a living musical legend, A. R. Rahman has and will continue to enthral and mesmerise the music lovers in the whole world with his musically genius talent and unforgettable compositions –

Jai Ho!

Review on- - Hum Tum aur Ghost

The story mainly revolves around our centre character Armaan (Arshad Warsi) who is a fashion photographer and in love with the beautiful Gehna (Dia Mirza). Though it has been quite apt from the title that the story revolves around ghosts and dead people, yet till first half an hour there is no clue of any ghost in the movie and you only end up seeing the same old love story of both these characters in a fancy packing. Later Armaan realizes that he has this strange capacity to communicate with the dead. Now 3 more stories of 3 ghosts in the movie unfold who wish Armaan to help them finish their unfinished tasks. Sadly after some grabbing moments and catchy start there is hardly any attention grabbing moment in the movie.

Critics View:

The story line is quite predictable and seems as if much homework could still be done with the art of storytelling in the movie which would have made Hum Tum aur Ghost, one of the great pic of the year. The viewer gets quite disappointed right after some time in the movie which fails in creating interesting screenplay. Though the designers of the movie have done great work and the locations selected for the shots are also perfect, but sadly the lack in screenplay and muddled script fails to catch fancy of the viewers. There is also some fun aspect to the movie with this ghost of Boman Irani who is confused and troubled, but to viewers disappointment they are quite few.

The movie crew has no doubt great talents like Arshad Warsi who had given shining performance in Ishqiya and also Sandhya Mridul and many but as they say has to be all the reasons to make a film hit and only one reason is enough to make it flop at the box-office.

Improve Your Study Environment With Table Lamps

Do you have a study in you home or perhaps a cozy nook you refer to as the home office? Do you have a desk adorned with family photos and nicknacks purchased on vacations? Is it a quiet area to which you can retreat from the commotions of the house, or like may people these days, do you have a work at home area with papers piled all over? The phone is ringing, the next order is being called in and there are six windows open on your computer screen in need of attention. Your head is throbbing, there is a slight ringing in your ears, and your eyes are stinging from the constant glare emitted by the ceiling light. If you can relate to the more stressful work environment then it is probably time to view your at home career in a different light, literally.

Desk lamps are a wonderful tool for changing a tense noisy atmosphere into a serene comfort zone and are available in an immense variety of styles. You should have no trouble finding a unit that fits in with the fashion of your home and the functionality of your office while also making a statement about your own unique personality.

Table lamps surpass ceiling lights because they can do a lot more than spread the same hard glare over the same area for the life of the bulb. Many units are built with arms and hinges so that they can be used as spotlights and give you the option to move the light to where it is needed, or even turn it away from you if you want a rest from the constant glow of the bulb.

The amount of money you spend on the purchase of your new lamp depends on how much light you really want it to provide and the amount of things you want to be able to do with it. While some units do no more than offer a similar but less harsh glare than the ceiling light, others have multiple functions ranging from dimmer switches to a built in mp3 player. Whatever your needs you can find a unit to suit them and you will see that desk lights really are the perfect way to improve your home office environment.

living in the moment

“I don’t remember things,” Henry explained to the unfamiliar female interviewer. She seemed very curious about how he spends a typical day, and about what he had eaten for breakfast, but his efforts to summon the information from his mind were fruitless. He could easily answer her questions regarding his childhood and early adult years, but the indefinite expanse of time since then was bereft of memories. In fact, from moment to moment Henry feels almost as though he has just awakened from a deep sleep, with the fleeting remnants of a dream always just beyond his grasp. Each experience, dull or dramatic, evaporates from his memory within a few dozen heartbeats and leaves no trace.

For over fifty years Henry has lived with anterograde amnesia, a form of profound memory loss which prevents new events from reaching his long-term memory. As a result his only memories are those he possessed prior to his amnesia, and the small window of moments immediately preceding the present.

The amnesia frequently depicted in fiction is a very rare retrograde variety known as dissociative fugue, where one’s identity and all memories prior to the pivotal event are compromised. In contrast, anterograde amnesia does not deprive the sufferer of their identity, their past, or their skills; it merely prevents new memories from forming. As a consequence one’s final memories are frozen in perpetuity, often accompanied by a constant sensation that one has just awoken from an “unconscious” state which filled the intervening time.

Henry’s handicap is the unintended result of experimental brain surgery performed in 1953. In his late teens the highly intelligent student began to experience frequent grand mal seizures, characterized by loss of consciousness, muscle spasms, and rigidity. The frequency of these epileptic events increased to the point that he was stricken with spontaneous episodes of unconsciousness every few minutes. After exploring every other avenue known to contemporary medicine, Dr. William Scoville administered a radical resection of the man’s medial temporal lobes in a desperate bid to reclaim some quality of life for young Henry. In that respect the experimental operation was a success– the patient’s severe seizures were reduced dramatically after the operation– however the surgeon was distressed to discover that the removal of the hippocampi had stripped Henry of his ability to form new memories.

The locations of the human hippocampiThe location of the human hippocampiThe development seriously hindered Henry from pursuing a normal life, but due to his condition he quickly became the world’s most famous subject in the study of the human brain. His real identity is a closely kept secret to this day, and he is referred to in medical literature by only his initials, “H.M.” However unfortunate, H.M.’s handicap helped to propel memory research beyond the realm of the philosophical for the first time in history. Earlier efforts to explore memory had been limited to animal studies, where scientists deliberately damaged various regions of lab animals’ brains to monitor any loss of memory functions. Such experiments were not only unpleasant for the animals, but frustratingly inconclusive for the researchers.

H.M. has been described as a friendly and articulate man with a higher-than-average IQ, sporting a charming personality in spite of his condition. Now in his early eighties, he still vividly recalls events from his childhood such as the stock market crash of 1929, but he is stricken with renewed grief every time he learns of his mother’s death. The grief is short-lived, however, as the substance of the news soon slips from the feeble grasp of his “working memory.” In an interview with researchers, he described the sensation:
“Right now, I’m wondering, have I done or said anything amiss? You see, at this moment everything looks clear to me, but what happened just before? That’s what worries me. It’s like waking from a dream. I just don’t remember.”

Like most anterograde amnesiacs, Henry experienced a degree of retrograde amnesia as well, blurring the details of the months leading up to the fateful operation.

Similar cases of anterograde amnesia have appeared over the years, often caused by Korsakoff’s Syndrome, a thiamine (vitamin B1) deficiency brought on by chronic alcoholism, malnutrition, eating disorders, or poisoning. This strongly suggests that thiamine is necessary to maintain the memory-writing features of the brain. Some abnormal viral infections can also produce the affliction, as is the case with a famed music expert named Clive Wearing. His ability to store memories was destroyed by a rogue infection of the herpes simplex 1 virus which attacked his brain’s hippocampus rather than triggering the typical cold sores. Other known causes include brain tumors, oxygen deprivation, and dementia-related diseases such as Alzheimer’s. In each instance it is found that the hippocampi have been compromised, indicating that these small structures are vital in laying down long-term memories. The hippocampus does not seem to play a role in recollection, however, since existing memories remain accessible.

Though anterograde amnesiacs are blocked from storing new information, researchers were astonished to discover that subjects are nonetheless capable of mastering new and complex tasks over time. Subjects who repeatedly practice skills such as backwards writing or guitar-playing can demonstrate measurable improvement, though in each instance the subject believes that he or she is attempting the task for the first time. This insight cast serious doubt upon the long-held belief that all memory is stored in a common mental reservoir. It also demonstrated that procedural memory– the “how to” memory of motor skills– is not governed by the exact same circuitry as episodic memory (autobiographical events) and semantic memory (general knowledge and facts). Henry M's living space, and his drawing of the floorplan three years after moving out.A diagram of one of Henry M's living spaces, and his depiction of it three years after moving out.Additionally, some patients have experienced the Tetris Effect hours or days after playing the game during experiments; they describe vivid dreams of falling Tetris shapes though they possess no conscious memory of the game’s existence.

A neuroscientist named Suzanne Corkin has been following Henry’s M.’s progress for about forty-three years, but each time she introduces herself he greets her as though he is meeting her for the first time. One one occasion, however, a nurse mentioned to Henry that “Dr. Corkin” had been asking about him, and he responded by asking, “Suzanne?” Though he could not say who she was, he had somehow managed to associate her first and last name.

Over the years a modest amount of semantic information has actually managed to seep into Henry’s long-term memory, suggesting that his brain may be struggling to find alternate pathways with sporadic success. He knows that a president named John Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, and he can draw a roughly accurate diagram of a home where he lived for a few years following his surgery. Henry seems untroubled by the elderly face which stares back at him from the mirror, suggesting that he is unsurprised by the notion that decades that have passed since his life-changing operation. When asked what he thought about how he looked, he responded matter-of-factly, “I’m not a boy.” He also seems to have learned that his memory is broken and that scientists are studying him to discover more about the human mind. Once, when asked whether he is happy, Henry responded “Yes” without hesitation. He followed with, “the way I figure it is, what they find out about me helps them to help other people.”

Small talk with H.M. tends to be a bit repetitive, but occasionally revealing. During a visit to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to conduct memory tests, Dr. Corkin asked Henry if he knew where he was as they strolled down a nondescript corridor. “Why of course,” he replied with a grin, “I’m at MIT!”

Taken aback, Dr. Corkin asked, “How do you know that?”

Laughing, Henry pointed at a nearby student wearing an MIT sweater. “Got you that time!”

Not only did the event demonstrate his intact sense of humor, but it showed that his powers of deduction are unhindered by his memory malady. On another occasion Henry was asked what he does to try to remember things. “Well,” he replied with a chuckle, “That I don’t know ’cause I don’t remember what I tried.”

A scene from MementoA scene from MementoIn a rare example of scientific correctness in Hollywood, the reality of anterograde amnesia was depicted with reasonable accuracy in the 2001 film Memento. The filmmakers applied the concept of reverse chronology to mimic the effects of the condition, allowing viewers to share in the protagonist’s confusion regarding prior events.

Owing to his unfortunate ailment Henry M. will never be able to understand the inestimable gift he has given to the field of neurology. The amnesic octogenarian presently resides in a Connecticut nursing home, where even today he continues to help researchers to coax secrets from the human mind. Furthermore, Henry’s lifelong contribution to science will not cease upon his death; he and his court-appointed guardian have agreed to donate his brain to science so that neurologists may one day examine the offending lesions in detail.

Though science still possesses a poor understanding of memory’s machinations, Henry and other sufferers of anterograde amnesia have provided a considerable number of indispensable clues. Their unwitting contributions will not be soon forgotten.

Ethical Hacking

Ethical Hacking:

Ethical Hacking also known as penetration testing or white-hat hacking.Ethical hacking involves the same tools tricks and techniques that hackers use, but with one major difference: Ethical Hacking is legal.
An Ethical Hacker is a person who possesses the skills, mindset, and tools of a hacker but is also trustworthy. Ethical Hackers perform the hacks as security tests for their systems.

Hacking problem:

With the growth and wide use of the Internet, computer security has become a major concern for business and governments of many countries. They want to take advantage of the Internet for electronic commerce, advertising, information distribution and access, and other pursuits, but they are worried about the possibility of being 'hacked'.

In their search for a way to approach the problem, organizations came to realize that one of the best ways to evaluate the intruder threat to their interests would be to have independent computer security professionals attempt to break into their computer systems. In the case of computer security, these “tiger teams” or “ethical hackers” as they are otherwise called would employ the same tools and techniques as the intruders, but they would neither damage the target systems nor steal information. Instead, they would evaluate the target systems' security and report back to the owners with the vulnerabilities they found and instructions for how to remedy them.

The hacker ethics deals with the idea that individuals are performing a duty for the common good, an analogy to a modern day 'Robin Hood'.(Funny...!!!But serious)

Qualities of Ethical Hackers:

a) First and foremost, they must be completely trustworthy. While testing the security of a client's systems, the ethical hacker may discover information about the client that should remain secret. In any case, if this information is publicized, it could lead to real intruders breaking into the systems. During an evaluation, the ethical hacker often holds the 'keys to the company'.

b) Ethical hackers should be very strong in programming and computer networking skills and should have been in the computer and networking business for several years.

Methods to avoid Hacking:

1.Reduce the amount of spam you receive by being cautious where you post your e-mail address.
2.Avoid publishing your e-mail address on Web sites.

IPL

IPL(Indian Premiere League), has taken Cricket to some great new heights which even Lalit Modi, the commissioner of IPL would not have dreamt 5 years back. Thanks to his mastermind, if not which India would not have witnessed this great event.

IPL-1

Well, it was only the first IPL that was smooth.Everything was new to everyone. The concept was new, people were new, franchisees were new and ofcourse T20 was also very new.

People were really excited about the word auction....it truly created ripples. Fans were thinking how, what, why with the concept of auctioning. It was for the first time that cricket got involved with business and profits and loss were discussed in the cricketing field. Everyone franchise set their heels on a running note but they were not very sure of what was actually transpiring.

Indian big shots like Shahrukh Khan, Vijay Mallya, Preity Zinta, Ambanis and many others kept their money at stake and took the chances. They had their managers managing the players list and they were busy counting money. All the available players were auctioned and the franchisees though not meticulous chose their players and got a kick start to the game.

All was well and IPL-1 was a huge hit among the Indian fans and people literally galored to the stadiums and truly embraced the game.Everyone liked it and the franchisees too understood what was happening and calculated their respective profits.

IPL-2:

IPL-1 was a huge hit and then everyone's eyes were on the second version.Auction continued and players were sold and the teams were ready. But it was not the end of story, problems arose, terrorists attacked and elections arrived.

Lalit Modi was on the verge of solving problems and later approached the government for help. But the home minister keeping the elections issue in mind softly denied his suggestions. This forced Lalit Modi to Think of new options and later approached South Africa and offered them the privilege to host the second season.South Africans grabbed the opportunity. To the astonishment of all, IPL-2 was a very big hit among the South African fans.

IPL-3:

Now, its time for IPL-3. It has become a bit old now, people knew what IPL is, franchisees got to know ways of earning profits and business had a major role to play.

Auction took place which then created havoc in the media.

Among the 51 players who were auctioned only 11 of them were selected among which there was not a single Pakistan player, who are the world T20 champions. Many raised this topic as a part of government pressure and cheap politics. Lalit Modi was openly criticized by the Pakistan media for the ouster of Pakistan players.Franchisees were also pointed for not being bold enough. Rumors arose that the worsening bilateral relations between India and Pakistan was responsible for this happening.

Franchisees clearly denied all the rumors and softly answered that it was only the unavailability of these players which made them take this decision. We have to believe in their words and not accuse them because they know the practical problems over there and it was their stakes that were very high.

Lets all join our hands together and support IPL-3 to be a huge hit like its predecessors.
